Hale Middle School held their Black History Month Family Night last Thursday. Families spent the evening with students and the school team enjoying a soul food dinner and a program filled with singing, dancing, and skits.
During the program, the school recognized Dr. Ebony Johnson, the first Black female superintendent for Tulsa Public Schools.
"To our students, thank you for the work that you put in to your education and for you becoming amazing. I've met so many young people tonight, and I'm inspired by you. You drive me to do the work that I'm supposed to be doing," said Dr. Johnson. "Thank you, Mrs. Davis, for putting on this amazing program, for the invite tonight, and the honor of being included in this celebration."
Erica Davis joined Dr. Johnson on stage to present her with a binder filled with her ancestry.
"I have another passion for history," said Mrs. Davis. "I traced back your mother's side back to your third great grandfather in 1835. This is my gift to you, Dr. Ebony Johnson."
